Life Skills Budget Plan

Life Skills Budget
Housing and overall plan

For the first two years of college I will be attending UAA University Center, and probably living in a dorm room. Tuition for me is free.

College Costs
(UAA)

Books: estimated $1,300/year.

Dorms/meals on campus: estimated $8,000/year

Student Fees: $530/year

Total: $9830/year

I fill out scholarships every weekend, so I estimate I'll earn at least $1000 in scholarships by the time I start college.

Work

During my first two college years, I will have a part-time job at Lowe's Hardware at $8.50 an hour, working at least 20 hours a week. This evens out to about $8160 a year, and after taxes, $5540.

Until I get into the media business full-time, I would also be working part-time at a radio station (channel 4 or channel 13) on weekends for minimum wage, which could even out to about $163 a month, or $1304 a year after taxes.

This, plus Lowes Hardware, evens out to a net total of $6844 a year.

Living Expenses/mo

Food: free (with dorm)

Car: free (given as graduation present)

Gas: $110/month

Misc.: $150/mo

Total: $260/mo

Shared dorm = $900/mo

Shared with 2 roommates = $300/mo

Cell phone charge (no landline) = $35/mo

OVERALL BUDGET PER MONTH

Total Income (after bills) = $570/mo

Total bills & living expenses/mo = $365

The rest earned would be saved in a savings account for extra groceries and/or the future.
